The following poster is for a film called Rescue Dawn; it is a film from the action/drama genre as you can tell from the poster.
· The first thing I notice with this poster is the large section of light in the centre, we are unsure what it is caused by but it is there to grab our attention and make us focus in on that point.
· The yellow and orangey, warm colours tell us that the film is set in a hot place and this is backed up by the palm trees surrounding the light.
· This light in the centre, as well as grabbing our attention, could symbolize hope within the film. Since the helicopters are flying in the light, perhaps it is them that offer that hope of happiness.
· The dark sections around the light could, on the other hand, envisage some kind of threat within the film, which surrounds this hope. The black offers a much more dark and cold twist to the movie and tells us how it is not all straight forward.
· The man at the centre of the poster towards the bottom is reaching up to the sky, which creates this image of him looking to the light for help and reaching out of the dark treacherous area.
· Other than this, the poster follows many of the codes and conventions, with the title and the names etc. also the way in which one image fills the whole poster is something that is commonly found throughout film posters.
